My friend has just come back from Russia. He is so impressed with its peculiarities in climate and culture. I like cold places and I am going to visit Siberia. May be anybody was there?

This is the best time of the year to be in Russia (which is definitely where i'm currently at.) which is close enough.

In terms of safety, I'll say Russia is an average safe country, especially if you're traveling as a tourist to large cities (such as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, etc.) or making the Trans-Siberian route (most of them). However, there are a number of risk areas in Russia, which is advisable not to travel to: The border with Ukraine.

Asides business trips, I haven't had other reasons to travel anywhere near Russia.

I've only been to Moscow and Saint Petersburg, so I can't really tell you about Siberia. Well, my friend used to go there to see the lake Baikal, and he said that it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. I don't know if it's true, but it's definitely worth checking. And since it's not that hard to get russian visa, I'll definitely do that one day, and hopefully, with the same friend to guide me.
