Do you have probably discovered that when your curly hair is wet, your curls are smooth and defined, but when it’s dry, they will become very frizzy? Recently there is a magical technique about how to plop curly hair all over TikTok, which can give even the frizziest-haired people gorgeous curls. Today we will tell you a detailed tutorial about how to plop hair with a long-sleeve T-shirt or a towel.
What Is Hair Plopping?
Hair Plopping is an easy technique that needs to warp wet curly hair in a T-shirt or towel so that it preserves the curls and prevents frizz. You also understand it as a curl-enhancing, heat-free way to dry your hair. In this way, your hair will be suspended in a set position, just like the old-fashioned pin curl or roller sets. Of course, it will make your hair much more natural and can give you frizz-free curls in fifteen minutes. Besides, it can allow you to capitalize and enhance your own hair pattern. More importantly, you can apply this technique to your curly wigs.
The Advantages Of Plopping Your Curly Hair
1.The T-shirt can absorb excess moisture without creating frizz while your hair is dry, significantly reducing your drying time.
2.The long-sleeve T-shirt or towel can also help absorb any excess product, so you won’t get hard, crunchy curls.
3.If your hair is thin and wavy, plopping your hair can create lift at the roots and make your curly hair get more fluffy.
How To Plop Your Curly Hair With A T-Shirt?
Step 1: Cleanse And Condition Hair
If possible, you had better use your favorite shampoo and conditioner to make sure that your hair is clean and wet. After all, the plopping method must need wet hair.
Step 2: Scrunch Out Excess Moisture Of Wavy Hair
Use a microfiber towel to gently squeeze your hair, thus scrunching out extra water until your hair is just damp as opposed to dripping wet. If time is enough, you can also put your hair up into a microfiber towel for about 20-30 minutes to blot the moisture. We sincerely recommend you use a microfiber towel to replace a regular towel to reduce frizz. If you don’t have one, please use an old t-shirt instead. Besides, you must keep in mind to not rub the towel against your hair—only blot or gently squeeze it.
Step 3: Apply Some Leave-in Conditioner To Your Hair
You can use your fingers to massage the leave-in conditioner into your hair and rub it in a circular motion throughout your hair. And then use a wide-toothed comb or your fingers to brush the hair gently, thus distributing the leave-in conditioner evenly and removing any knots of your wet hair.
Tips: 1. You can Pick up a kind of high-quality leave-in conditioner from a drug or store near your homes, such as cream or spray.
2.You had better concentrate the leave-in conditioner on the ends of your curly hair as they are much easier to dry.
3.Nothing is better than applying a leave-in conditioner to your hair from the ears down, which can effectively avoid the roots being greasy.
Step 4: Work Out A Towel or T-shirt Flat On A surface
Spread the long-sleeve T-shirt out on the surface to make it completely flat, with the sleeves closest to you. If you have a T-shirt, it would be better to use a long-sleeve and extra-large T-shirt so that you can easily tie it around your head. If you don’t have a proper T-shirt, you can use a microfiber towel instead. But T-shirt is the best option for you. The one thing you need to notice is the regular towel easily causes frizz.
Step 5: Blend over And Let Hair cascade Forward
You need to bend over and allow your wet hair to cascade forward. In the process, don’t forget to reach towards the back of your head to make sure that every strand of your hair is in front of you.
Step 6: Place Your Wet Hair On The T-shirt
The next step is to lower your head so that the ends of your hair can get to the middle of the fabric. Then continue lowering your head so that your hair creates a pile as you get closer to the surface, stopping until the crown of your head attaches to the T-shirt.
Step 7: Wrap Hair In The T-shirt
You can reach above your head to pick up the top of the shirt or towel, then pull this top end over the back of your head to make it flat. Don’t forget to pull the top of the shirt or the towel to reach the top of your neck after it’s been folded over.
Step 8: Secure The T-shirt
Take the left sleeve in your left hand and the right sleeve in your right hand. Bring the two sleeves together at the back of your head and tie them in a knot, finally secure the sleeves over the top half of the shirt.
Tips: 1. If you used a long-sleeved shirt, please fold each sleeve across the back of your head and bring them to the front, then tie the knot there.
2. If you used a towel and after you bring the top section of the towel over the back of your head, you’ll be left with two long ends where your ears are. You could twist two long ends tightly and then bring the two ends together to tie them on top of your head in a knot. Or you can also use large hair clips to secure the ends of each twist to the towel turban.
In the end, you need to wait for your hair to air drying completely and then undo the T-shirt to reveal your bouncy and frizz-free curls.
