How to Install apps on a Samsung TV

So I got this SUHD Samsung TV series 8 and I tried installing a few apps on it: Directv, Mobdro, and other free to air applications but i'm surprised I can't. Is it impossible or I just don't know how? I ended up going for my Amazon Firestick which I thought I wouldn't be needing anytime soon. I want to believe I'm doing something wrong here, otherwise my next stop is best buy to have my full refund of $1,000+ it's day two of 14 of my grace period already. I need help guys.
