Since the day we were born, we have been associated in some way with numbers. For example, we were born on a date that is a number; our age is a number, etc. When we play a game, we are dealing with numbers. Just like in cricket, we make runs that are counted in numbers. In soccer or hockey, a goal is scored, which, again, is a number. There are many more examples.
We may all have heard that the language of nature is mathematics. That is really true. The more we learn about numbers, the more we learn about the universe. We go to school and soon we come into contact with numbers. As the days go by, our connection with numbers grows stronger. Numbers are becoming a daily part of our lives. As we grow up, we have to come across a subject like math.
Mathematics is a very beautiful subject and it is also feared. Some find mathematics very interesting, while others are afraid of mathematics as if it were a ghost. Dealing with math means lots of math. Calculations can be very simple or very complex.
The basic things to calculate are addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, finding square and square roots, cubic and cube roots and many more. At school we learn calculation methods on paper. As we go through life, we are faced with more complex calculations. So we started using calculators. But we never knew that you can do simple to complex calculations in your head. Mental calculations are rarely taught in schools and universities.
Mental calculations have numerous advantages:
1) It saves a lot of time because we can do all the calculations in our heads.
2) We no longer need calculators. Calculators are not allowed on many competitive exams. Therefore, mental calculations are useful as these exams need to be calculated very quickly.
3) It also increases mental acuity when we stretch our minds and focus on numbers.

There are many tricks and techniques to quickly calculate something in your head, probably in a second.
For example: Suppose you want to multiply a random number by 11. Let's say you want to multiply 26 by 11. You can do it this way.
First add the numbers, 2+6 = 8 and put it by 26 which results in 286.
Similarly, if you want to multiply a 3-digit number by 11, you can. Say 132 times 11. Then it can be done like this:
First add 1+3=4 and then add 3+2=6 and place these answers between 1 and 2, resulting in 1462.
The good thing is that anyone can learn these tricks and techniques. It is very easy to master the art of mathematics once we know the mathematical techniques. Those who are afraid of math will feel comfortable playing with numbers. You will surely outperform your peers. You are known as a magician of calculating everything. You can quickly solve big problems with a very accurate estimate. And last but not least, you will find out how interesting math is!
